Sevenoaks proves to be a class apart

Sevenoaks has been named the eighth best independent school in the south east.Parent Power: The Sunday Times Schools Guide 2020 ranked the school 18th in the national standings.Tonbridge schools Judd and Tonbridge Grammar also featured in the top ten state schools for the region, completing an excellent return for the region’s secondary education institutions.

The guide has been published since 1993 and offers an insight into Britain’s top 2,000 schools. It takes A-level grades A*-B into account, as well as GCSE and IGCSE grades to offer parents a searchable database at – a useful tool to compare schools by postcodes or local authorities.

Sevenoaks School finished comfortably inside the top ten, in the company of distinguished names such as Magdalen College Oxford (2018 winners) and even Eton College in Windsor.A whopping 93.8 percent of A-level grades at the school were A*-B, while 91.2 percent of their GCSE/IGCSE grades were at A*/A/9/8/7. This exceptional return puts them inside the top 20 independent schools in the country, although the school is down five places from the 2018 report from 13th to 18th – but nevertheless seen by the school as a fine achievement to rank so highly.

Our local state schools didn’t fair too badly, either – both the Judd School and Tonbridge Grammar School both made the top ten state secondary schools in the southeast, 87.9 per cent and 84.5 percent of their A-level results were A*-B respectively. Judd also made the top 20 nationally, finishing 19th.The big winners were Dartford Grammar, who took the Sunday Times south-east International Baccalaureate School of the Year award, and St Mary’s School, Ascot, which was awarded the Sunday Times south-east Independent Secondary School of the Year prize.
